The main character of the game is Blake Langerman, cameraman assistant and husband of journalist Lynn Langerman. The couple is trying to figure out the murder of a pregnant woman (known as Jane Doe). Unfortunately, the helicopter flying the Langermans is crashing in a remote area of Arizona. Blake’s wife disappears, and he tries to find her. Soon he reaches a village cut off from civilization, in which a sect practicing faith about the approaching end of the world.
The second part of Outlast is similar to the original. In other words, here we are dealing with an adventure game in which the actions are from the first person. Our ward, the above-mentioned Blake Langerman, is not able to fight the enemies he encounters. Instead, he must avoid them, hiding where possible, and, if necessary, escape. However, you can not run forever – because Blake has limited stamina. If we overdo it, it falls down and then the pursuers can easily catch it (health can be regenerated with bandages).
The main weapon of the protagonist is his camera. You can use it to see in the dark or record conversations. However, the camera needs batteries that are gradually worn out. Attention is drawn to the fact that Langerman wears glasses. If they fall from him, his vision becomes worse, as a consequence we ourselves will have a poor understanding of the situation. Exploring the game we will meet documents of different types. Thanks to them, we will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with local history.
The game has a fairly high rating among publications – an average of 75 out of 100. But it also has age restrictions – 18+ from the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) and many other attestation commissions.
